The Project
The WEST Energy Exchange, in development by re•stor, will provide energy security, reliability, and resiliency to western North American markets across electricity, natural gas, and fuels, while also supporting significant regional economic development.
The WEST Energy Exchange is a storage complex that will create and utilize multiple salt caverns to store natural gas, compressed air energy, and various fuels for energy generation. The project is committed to using proven technologies for the development and operation of all assets. The project will comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry best practices, to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
This multi-fuel underground energy storage project will offer long-duration storage through compressed air energy storage (CAES), natural gas storage, and refined products storage.
The project aims to address the intermittency and volatility of renewable energy in electric, gas, and fuel markets, while supporting regional stakeholders in developing and operating a secure and economically viable energy grid capable of serving both current and future customers.
By leveraging controlled, unique locations in Arizona, the WEST Energy Exchange will provide energy, gas, and fuel storage services to customers, including utilities, industrial users, and data centers across the Southwest.
Enabled by substantial long-duration energy storage from salt caverns, the project will also serve as a development site for behind-the-meter industrial operations, including data centers, manufacturing, and fertilizer production.
Strength beneath the surface,
stability for the grid,
opportunity for the West.
The WEST Energy Exchange is committed to strong environmental stewardship by supporting local communities and protecting natural resources including water, air, and land.
Project assets will be developed to transition between natural gas, air, other gases, and fuels allowing for immediate service to near-term markets while providing long-term flexibility to support decarbonization efforts.
